The Marcott Rail Trail
Marcott Road to Rt 209 3.2 miles
Link to D&H Canal and Trail info: D&H Canal Heritage Corridor
A continuation of the same old O&W track that runs clear up to Kingston and brings you to a great pedestrian park next to Rt 209. Starting at the parking area off of Marcott Road and traveling north, you walk down a straight as an arrow track about a mile in length that is shaded and cool even in the middle of summer. Because of the cooler and moist environment you can see tons of beautiful mushrooms in season
and view birds like owls and herons .
After the straightaway the trail opens up to a fantastic swamp populated with beavers, kingfishers and some of the biggest and loudest bullfrogs I’ve ever seen. If you have a dog that tends to enjoy water, be prepared for a good soaking.

As with many of the hikes, there are old (some not so old) fences of barbed wire running the length of the trail and into the surrounding woods.
If you have a dog that roams, please be aware of these, not only to respect private property, but also to prevent injury to your pet.
